Photo books are a big hit with older folks, I've done a few for relatives retiring or having milestone birthdays. Used lots of family themed photos, normally between 80 and 120 some up to 200.

Better yet, create a slide show from the photo book using his favorite music as background and play at his birthday party.

It's time consuming I'd allow at least three weeks from starting to scan photos to final production.

Check Shutterfly or SmugMug for good ideas.

Pop for a fishing trip with your dad. Trust me. Once he's gone, you'll cherish the memories of the trip you took with him. While he's alive, he'll cherish spending time with his son.
