I went to a Toyota dealer yesterday to look around. They don't have many cars on the lot. They claim that they have some "in transit". For instance, there was only one Rav4 on the lot. But they will take a deposit on one of the ones in transit if you make a deal.

I think they are full of crap. No doubt they might not have a full complement of cars like pre pandemic, but I think they are hiding cars offsite somewhere to try to create a shortage and a sense of urgency that if you want a car you better agree to their terms and make a deposit.
