It's pretty simple. With actions come consequences. People "whip" their kids because they love them and even at a young age, teaches them that there are rules that aren't to be broken. In the big picture of things, adults have the same "rules" as an adult like a job, finances, etc.. I've seen parents that don't whip their kids or discipline them in any way and the kids walk all over their parents. It's embarassing to watch.

I've seen adults who say they spank or whip their kids everyday. I ask why so much?. They say "it's the only thing that works". I then drop the bomb on them--"If it's the only thing that works, then why do have to spank so much?". I have yet to get a coherent answer from any of them. I chalk it up to someone who does not know how to parent.

You don't know how time out works do you? Its not a choice. Its horrible abuse. Kids should be free to live their lives as they see fit without physical force being used in any shape or form. I'm tired of parents grabbing their kids hand as they cross the street forcing them to keep up and not run away. Horrible abuse.

Another example is not allowing kids to eat what they want. We don't do this to welfare recipients. Pure abuse making kids eat their veggies before they get up from the table. Parents need to learn that kids are individual humans and not their property. If they can't offer an appetizing meal to their kids without taking their toys away or physical restraint, they need to just give the kids up for adoption. CPS has shown they are much better trained than parents to care for kids.

I also mentioned that there is ample evidence of the long term negative effects of corporal punishment. THere is no such evidence in your example.

What's an example of something your kid would have to do to get a spanking? I threw a temper tantrum when I was a kid about not getting a Dukes of Hazard halloween costume, and got my little butt spanked for it. I learned a lesson.
If one of my kids did that now days, easy solution, no trick or treating. (although that would be the consequence given at first sign of a tantrum beginning, and if it continued I'd 100% carry through with it).

I clicked expecting to find data on the negative effects of grabbing a child's arm to pull him out of the street. YOu give me children locked in cages. As I said in the OP, I am not talking about what would be considered abuse.

Here's a hypothetical for you:
Let's say you go to the park with your 6 year old. It's time to leave and the kid throws a fit, screaming, running away from you, maybe he evens starts hitting you.
How do you handle this?

2. Take home
3. All privileges gone for AT LEAST 7-10 days if not more. That means nothing but regular meals, hygiene, etc. In other words, he gets to do nothing.
4. After that, he earns one privilege back every 3 days, assuming he behaves, with the most desired privilege coming last.
