Do you ever stop to think that some (most) of these EBR public school parents cannot just leave their hourly job and find a way to make it to their child's school in the middle of the day? That doesn't mean they "don't give a shite".

Well, where are any of the grandparents or extended family? If my parents couldn't come then my grandparents certainly did in place of my parents. I know that more grandparents are raising grandkids today more than ever, my wife and I being two of them. We both work and make every effort to be there or have another grandparent or great-grandparent attend. The kids are moving into the teen years so the opportunities will lessen but when they were little we showed up........ Not that hard to do once in a while even if you have other obligations. You have to VALUE the experience and attention it brings to the child. They see that it matters to you and it may make if matter more to them.

Failing schools in majority black areas is solely due to the lack of giving a shite in the community. It won't change until the culture changes. Throwing money at it won't fix it

This. One of the biggest issues that hold black children, or any for that matter, back is the home environment. Non supportive or generally uninvolved parents reduce the chance of a child having a chance at life. Schools should follow Andre Agassi's example of requiring the parents to volunteer so much at the school.

I hope that is a better apple to compare.

As an example, for Thanksgiving lunch, only a handful of parents showed up to eat with their son or daughter.

Did the parents know they were invited? I would have eaten with my son at his school if I knew I could go. And this is in LP.

Hell his school banned all Kindergarten parents from even posting on their facebook page after the principal made the news in a bad way.

Seeing all the people talk about how involved they are with the school makes me hate the Walker Elem principal more.

There is zero involvment and she pretty much banned an entire class from the school because she got in trouble for not being forthcoming about that student that found a pill on the bus.

I would love to be involved in my sons school and help them out and have lunch with my son. But instead parents of just kindergarteners are not allowed... messed up bs. Makes me wonder if she will permanently blackball his class.
