Baton Rouge vs New Orleans storm coverage

The Baton Rouge news market is horrible. I moved to Gonzales about two years ago from NOLA. It didn’t take long to see that none of the four major channels invest much of their resources on local news. I have an outdoor antenna mounted 25 feet high just so I can get the New Orleans news channels. 4, 6, and 8 have had nothing but storm coverage since 4 pm, 8 has had it all day. 26 in New Orleans doesn’t even cover the news. None of the Baton Rouge channels have interrupted regular programming for the storm. I realize that it hasn’t even hit yet, but you would think that at least one Baton Rouge station would up their competitive game.

Jay Grymes says you are horrible.

Also, WBRZ has an extra channel (channel 11 on Cox) that you can watch all night long if you want

Why does a BR station need round the clock coverage right now?
Either way both major stations in BR had extended coverage today and have their secondary digital channels broadcasting.

Honestly, NOLA has one of the better media markets in the country. Their local newscasts are top notch

Jay Grymes is the best weatherman in the state and is the official weatherman of the O-T Lounge.

I agree that WAFB is so far ahead of the other three channels that it is unreal, but at least WWL and WDSU try to put up a fight against WVUE.

Why would BR get storm coverage? Its just rednecks in cow fields.
No coastal threat.

New Orleans doesn’t need round the clock coverage right now, but they have it. All I am saying is that competition makes everyone better.

You’re comparing a top 50 media market vs. a top 100.
Next up, you’ll tell me the SEC is better than than MAAC.

How is being alarmist and ridiculous for 24 hours over a tropical storm on local news a competitive game?

You are correct on the market sizes. WAFB and WVUE are both owned by the same company. It is just crazy the amount of time that WVUE spends on the news. 4:30 am til 10 am, an hour for lunch time, 4pm - 6 pm, then 9pm - 10:30 pm.

Well, the stations in New Orleans are pretty much foresaking advertising dollars for their coverage. They are just going from one story/location to another.

WWL even has a live feed on twitter
