Keep in mind they eat up the oxygen
and therefore are frowned upon, not to mention the fire hazard.
I read the reason the don’t have vents is they don’t produce much Carbon Monoxide if you keep the flame burning efficienct (blue not yellow)

My grandparents had one in their house. Most houses have been retrofitted and had those removed. Good luck

that would be just one more heater my wife would put on max and heat up the bathrooms to 85 degrees.
Those heaters are making your bathroom way hotter than 85 degrees if on the full flame, it will turn it into an oven

Odd though this house doesn’t seem to be that old and these look to have been made before the 60s. It’s a 3br 2ba brick single story and the hallway bathroom has it. I rent it so not sure when it was built but I would guess 60s-70s

That heater might be the death of you.
Get a new heater that has a fail safe pilot.Pilot goes out,the gas turns off.
That heater is 50 years old.
Those Ceramic Radiants are from the 60's or 70's.

I used to live in a house that had a bathroom heater and tile exactly like that but all pink
I literally just tore out the exact same heater as OP for my bathroom remodel. Everything in pic is same except I had white tiles. Tub to the left and everything. If there is a toilet to the right I might lose my mind.
I never even tried to light mine as the gas was disconnected.

This doesn’t have a pilot on it. You light it each time.

Take it easy there, Fidgets. There are only so many ways to configure the fixtures in a bathroom.

Can you just turn the gas on without lighting it.
If the answer is "yes",I'd think about a safe infra-red heater.
eta:The pilot and "Thermal-couple" are the safety part of newer heaters. The gas valve won't turn on unless the "Thermal-couple" is heated by the pilot.
It may be functional, but make sure it's cut off when not in use.

One of the homes I lived in growing up had a heater like that in the bathroom, they are great at warming up the room. However, I'd put a carbon monoxide detector somewhere near by in case it isn't burning the fuel efficiently or if the tubing develops a leak. One cold morning, my mom was home alone with the heater on when the alarm on the detector went off. Grateful my dad had the foresight to think something like that could happen.

As a licensed plumber we are required to disconnect and remove these heaters when testing gas lines.
They are very unsafe.

Good thing I do all my own plumbing work

Then you should be able to safely install an Infra-red Bathroom Heater.
Around $100.
