Balancing sports and homework

So I don't have to deal with it much this year, but last night I heard a parent say their kid averages 2-3 hours of homework a night, and that's after practice. They struggle to get everything done and the kids in bed for 10.
What experiences are yall having this year? Is it harder for a kid to play a school sport these days?

I find this hard to believe

It was a parent of a 5th grader believe it or not, and a few other parents also said their 5th grader was loaded down too.

I teach my children that education is overrated. The best way to make it in life is through sports. Anyone who disagrees with that is a moran.

Bull... wait for it... shite. I never did that much hw in high school, and I went to a very good school. Their kid either procrastinates and counts all the wasted time as time doing hw, or is straight up lying.
But even if somehow that number is correct (it's not though), that's a sacrifice you make to play sports.

Now I really call bullshite. 3 hours of hw in middle school every night?

2-3 hours of homework is a bit of a stretch. Other than studying for tests, I never had that much homework, and the homework I did have, I usually got most of it done during school.

Obviously it's the same for most adults. We didn't have as much homework. I think the kids are getting more these days though. I've got a senior and a second grader so I'm not certain at all what the workload is for that age range.

My son doesn't get home from football practice until after 6:30. After dinner, shower and homework it's time for bed. He's handling it fine. If you wanna play you gotta pay.

I have a brother in law in 5th grade (at a good school as well), and he has no where near 3 hours of hw each night. Maybe if you count from the second he starts to all the time he dicks around before actually doing it (having iPads for kids to do school work on may not be the best study tool

That's when you just save the homework for later classes. You do it the next day in one of your bs easy classes or during your lunch or something. Gotta earn your sports playing privileges.

There is not enough time in the day for a teacher to assign 2-3hrs of homework a night

My son plays sports and they immediately report to a room with teachers that stay after school for two hours with them until practice begins. It's pretty awesome, and they can get individual assistance if they are struggling in any particular areas. There are also days of the week after school and before practice that are specific to individual subjects to do nothing but reinforce or help clarify areas they are currently learning.

It seems like that's the best case scenario, having a study hall option.

You're talking about 5th grade. There is no way a legit 2-3 hours of hw every night is assigned. None. Zero.

What? I grew up playing sports from the age of 5 thru college. Probably from about 6th grade on, I had at least a couple hours homework every night. By high school I probably had 3-4hrs. Just a good prep if the kid is good enough to play college ball and still needs to earn a degree. Class from 8am to noon, practice from 2-5+, then home to study.

what HS did you go to where you had 3-4 hours of homework every night?
I might have had 30 min - 1 hour, and those were the nights when I didn't do it during class or couldn't do it the morning before.

If your travel ball team doesn't have its own tutor, time to look for another team.

I got away from the world of private sports.. Thankfully the school now offers sports for the younger kids too.
