Whats the OT policy on gift giving for baby and bridal showers at work?

I contribute for baby showers but don't give two fricks about a bridal shower.

I prefer showering with brides over babies while at work.

I always contribute, but the amount depends on how much I like the person.
Once I only gave $5 to a group gift.
Other times I've given $25.

Whatever you think about it, its a good idea to get them a little something at the least. I would say it also depends on whether or not its a rare occassion. If it seems like there is always something going in which you are expected to give something then you have to draw the line somewhere.
When I started one of my first jobs, it was in an office in a building with several different types of department. It seemed like once a week someone's kid was selling something or there was some type of raffle tickets being sold. The first 4 or 5 times someone asked me if I would buy something I would, but then I realized I had to start telling people no so I stopped carrying my wallet when around the building and just started telling people "i dont have my wallet on me".

A lot of times they don't give the guys a heads up (or anyone outside her department). Otherwise I would support it. Last time I knew in advance I picked up receiving blankets.

Recommend everyone chipping in for a gift card.

Depends on how close I am to the person. If it is someone I hang out with outside of work...I'll go shop and find a nice gift off their registry.
If it's a coworker that I like, but we don't hang out at all outside of work...I'll just make a nice contribution to a group gift card.
I didn't have a bridal shower at work. Couple nurses took me out for a happy hour. But I was very touched that they had collected money from all my coworkers to give me over $200 in gift cards. Considering I was having a destination wedding that only very close family and friends were invited to...I wasn't expecting anything from coworkers tbh.
