Mary Ann Mobley

1959 Miss America from Biloxi

She was born in Biloxi but raised in Brandon, MS.

She was not Coast Trash.

My m-i-l placed in the 1959 Miss Mississippi Pageant* the following year after Mobley won Miss Mississippi.

*The winner of the 1959 Miss Mississippi Pageant also won Miss America (in 1960), Lynda Lee Mead from Natchez. She and Mobley were both Chi Os at Ole Miss. Thad Cochran & Trent Lott were cheerleaders at UM about the same time frame. And the football team was arguably the best team in the country from 1959-1964.

and as a result, the pageant passed a rule that no state could win twice in a row

So every year one contestant knows she can't win

and they could have had NFL HoFer Lance Alworth of Brookhaven

He intended to go to OM but BION the coach had a West Point type rule against married players. Lance musta knocked up his chick b/c he got married in HS. So he went to Arky

Can you imagine Lance at OM? They score at least one TD in the Halloween game, & no one gives a shite about Billy Cannon...

Bambi’s first wife (Betty Jean) and he divorced in 1969, she eventually married Jim Guy Tucker and then became the First Lady of Arkansas.

They were married from 1975 to his death earlier this year.

The LSU Golden Girls

The early years. Unfortunately they aren't dated.

The middle 3 pics are from right around 1969-71....

The only reason I know is because one of them was a teacher of mine in HS....
