Too bad we can't carpet bomb those bastards since they're pussies and use human shields.

Kate Pierson was SO hot.

B-52's should have a sticker on them that says
"Nuclear capable since 1954... dropped none, lost two and pissed."
"Nuclear capable since 1954... dropped none, lost two and pissed."

Why is "nuclear capable" even part of the headline??
Pretty much anything is nuclear capable. You could probably rig an A-10 to carry some kind of nuke without too much difficulty.

Congressional approval, foriegn gov't approval(s) or both?
Not so much approvals, just making sure they understand we aren't putting nukes in their backyards.

Where are B-1s, and now B-52s, launching from? Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Diego Garcia?
I'm not going to say.

I know that some limits have been set on ground troops. Does the same thing happen for aircraft as well?
No.

What's the advantage of using B-52s instead of B-1s? Payload, loiter time, relative ease of maintenance?
B-1s were brought back in January to complete an upgrade. B-1 can carry more 2,000 lb JDAMs, but the B-52 can carry more 500 lb JDAMs. The B-52 can loiter longer without refueling, but with even a single refueling both can hang out for a really long time. B-52 has a higher Mission Capable (MC) rate than the B-1.

What would the "wrong message" be? Aren't B-1s also nuclear capable?
The B-1 is not nuclear capable and hasn't been for a really long time. For the "wrong message" see my answer to your first question.

No. The hardest part is all of the certifications not just the physical connections. That's why new aircraft (F-35 and B-21) start as conventional only and then attain nuclear certifications a few years after first achieving Initial Operational Capability (IOC).

That is mindblowing. It was designed to penetrate Soviet air defenses and deliver a nuclear payload.

That was the B-1A. Carter killed that program in favor of the Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) program. Reagan brought the B-1 back as the B-1B with the original intent to be nuclear capable, but we had to decrease the number of operationally deployed nuclear bombers due to the START treaty. The B-1's nuclear capability was axed to meet that mandate. Similarly, some B-52s are currently being modified to be incapable of employing nukes to meet the mandates in the New START treaty.

Without going into anything you shouldn't, how do you modify something to not be nuclear capable?

For the B-52s that are being converted right now, they are removing the specialized equipment that allows the aircrew to unlock and enable the nuclear warhead. They are then welding shut the area where that equipment goes.

Take the certification stickers off. He went over this already.

Surprised they left the loveshack.

So basically you could refit them anytime you wanted.

No. First, it is considered a permanent modification; particularly with the metals being used it would be extremely difficult to remove the cover plates. Second, the Russians come here to inspect our nuke assets (aircraft, missiles, subs, etc) several times a year. They'll be inspecting those jets to make sure we've kept our end of the deal. We go there and do the same too.

Rig the B52's with high frequency speakers under the wings, flying over ISIS territory and have Planet Claire on a constant loop 24 hours a day, make them bastards quit in less than a week...

I wish. I fly a desk right now as the Chief of B-52 Requirements at Air Force Global Strike Command.

What's the age cut-off to get hired by the 92d/343d Bomb Squadrons?

Perhaps we could blast their music over large loudspeakers in hopes they'd throw down their weapon and run away.
