The BUFF doesn't have JATO. They will just take off with a low fuel load. Just like for landing, they will have to pull lights out of the edge of the runway so the wings don't pull them up. They can also move fuel around to pick up a wing to help with taxiing.

For two or three years...back in the early 70's...these dudes buzzed the trees in south central KY multiple times a day with great regularity. They couldn't have been more than 500 - 1,000 feet up. You could see the dual guns (they still had them then) sticking out the back and the outline of the bomb bay doors. It was so loud. We were told that they were out of either Georgia or Alabama but I'm not for sure which. All I know is, it commanded your attention and it was something I looked forward to as a 10-11 year-old kid.
