At What Age Should You Just Stay Overweight (Fat)?

When middle aged people who were, let's say, husky or heavy decide to drop 30 pounds or so, it looks like they aged 30 years. That loose skin just droops and they get the turkey neck. They just don't look good, even though they are thinner.

At what age do you pass the point where your skin loses the elasticity to sustain weight loss? Or when should you just say, "frick it. I look better fat than I would skinny."

Case in point.

Penn Jillete over the course of a year.

15-16. It's all downhill from there anyway.

I saw Penn Gilette on Celebrity Jeopardy and it looked like he was dying.

Is that a real picture of Sharpton??? He looks horrible as well.

Its one thing to lose some weight, but when it looks like you're in the final stages of terminal cancer, you really need to go back to eating some donuts.

Skin Elasticity
The elastic fibers within the skin allow it to stretch and contract similarly to a rubber band, according to the Obesity Action Coalition. This elasticity allows your skin to stretch as you grow and to bounce back after natural changes like pregnancy and weight loss. However, the elastic fibers in skin become disrupted when you gain too much weight, preventing the skin from recoiling completely. Loose skin after weight loss reflects this disruption in the elastic fibers of the skin. Major factors contributing to your skin's elasticity include age and the amount of stretch placed on your skin.

And I never thought of Penn as fat. Yeah, he's big, but the man is 6'6 and has always been big. He doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs. He likes food and sex. Goddamn. Keep at least a few vices.

Skin does not encourage, sustain or restrict weight loss.

Once you quit growth vertically, your window of opportunity is closed. I've been obese since nineteen with no intention of making a change.

Teller's 5'9. So, not quite a midget. Quasi midget sounds good.

He's lost just enough right now though that he doesn't look sickly.

It's all about the rate at which you lose too. Some of these people who end up getting gastric bypass/lapband lose it so quick the skin literally cannot keep up.

This. I'm sure their cholesterol levels and blood pressures are better now that they lost all the weight.

I'm sure they also like being able to be more mobile as they age as well.

My husband's friend lost a bunch of weight and has a big amount of excess skin on his stomach. However, he is more active now and happier and healthier...I'm sure he would much rather the excess skin than going back to his fat days.
