I have a 2006 Chevy Equinox. Check engine line comes on and off, is on ~75-80% of the time since day 1. brought it back to the dealership and they said it was a bad PCV valve and replaced it. The light didn't come back on for about 100 miles. Brought it back and they said it COULD be the intake manifold gasket has a slight leak in it but they didn't really know, and closed the case as nothing wrong, faulty light. I shite you not.
Only symptom we can see is that every few weeks it will not start. It will try to turn over for 4 seconds without ever starting. I can put my foot on the gas pedal and turn the ignition again and it starts right up.
What the frick is wrong with my car?

How old is the battery in the truck and does it seem sluggish on start up?
Posted on 3/13/17 at 12:44 pm to meauxjeaux2
Less than a year, it does not
Stuff i have read online says to check for loose grounds. Going to give that a try when I get a chance

and i just remembered. Those model trucks had very bad problems with the rear window seal leaking. The Body control module is hack there in that rocker panel and if it gets wet then it can and will cause many electrical problems including the gauges.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord ex with v6 engine. I have a 137,000 miles but I never did a automatic transmission flush on it. I had people tell me do it and other people tell me I went too long that I shouldn't do it.
when should this be done? i have a 2007 with 104,000

Domestic vehicles i would do it around 90,000 miles but those Japanese vehicles have great transmissions and great transmission fluid. Many don't do it at all and they're fine. If it were my vehicle i'd do it around 120,000 just t say i did it.

What is your opinion of getting work done at a dealership vs a regular mechanic? Do you think they will do things that don't need to be done just to be able to charge you more?
I think it's fairly obvious that they charge more for the same amount of work but i am currently under the impression that they at least do a comparable job to an independent mechanic
Of course all of this is on average, there are bad apples in anything

some stuff is unavoidable about getting work done at the dealership.
Computer flashes, squeeks and rattles under warranty, recalls, etc.
Out of warranty work i'd go the independent shop route.
The only thing i'd say getting done at a dealership out of warranty for Japanese and German vehicles is transmission fluid.
Theirs is the best.

Ford is trying to charge me 3500 to fix my timing chain in my POS ecoboost. I've been driving with the problem for 35k miles and it doesnt seem to be getting any worse. Of the 5 guys I know with this motor, including myself, 4 of us have the same problem and 3 of them had no idea. I'm gonna keep driving it and if it blows up I'm gonna get a tow truck to drop it off in the middle of the parking lot of FORD with a big frick you letter attached.

i don't think your chain is actually stretched. More than likely the auto tensioner is malfunctioning.
It only makes noise when it gets to operating temp and at idle right?

Just on cold start in the mornings. Last for maybe a second or 2.

2005 BMW 645ci. Had for almost two years. Brand new battery when I bought it. I keep getting a "High Battery Drain" warning. A mechanic ran codes and replaced some switch but that did not work. Left it at a shop for over 24 hours so they could run tests. Pulling minimally increased amps overnight but could not pinpoint cause. Went on vacation and did not start the car for one week and it died. Several months later, the car sat for another week and it did not die (and the warning light did not come on when I started it up). Any thoughts? Thanks a lot in advance.
