Closer to a century on the nose, but that would be quibbling, baw.
What about the theory that the descendants of slaves in the U.S. are, by and large, much better off than the descendants of those who stayed on the continent? Aside from being karmic justice, doesn't that imply some sort of ultimate benefit from those who suffered through the worst of it?
I mean, it was guys like Jefferson who felt that slavery was worse for the white folks - because they weren't powerless, they weren't innocent of wrongdoing and that they would carry the moral scars and experience the moral rot and decay (which was largely true of the planter class by the time of the war - while the Confederates were great infantry soldiers and cavalrymen, they were drawn from the younger sons and dirt farming class - there was not much of a middle class in the South then, and the wealthy, for the most part, skipped the war.)

In my opinion, I believe the old testament to be a book of parables... Made up stories that were told to help people understand the point of something.
I find it hard to believe the Earth was created in 7 days, the human race was populated with the start of two people, Noah built an ark, gathered all the animals, including the ones there were not discovered yet, put them all on the ark, without the lions eating the sheep and what not... And so on.

i think this is definitely true. or at least there's a better potential to be much better off.

no, cause the people who suffered the worst of it died in bondage and don't know that i exist.

maybe if you believe in judgement administered by god. I don't, it was worse for the slave. because of the bible, many slave owners thought they were doing god's work and had the scripture to justify it.

It is human nature to justify what one is doing (or what one wants to do) - and that is another stain on an otherwise optimistic, good-hearted nation. Slavery is a stain - an open wound. I wish we could do more to heal it, but I'll be damned if I can come up with something other than to keep moving forward.

i don't. i believe the old scribes made it up to gain a powerful narrative and embellish their history.
what's the point in making up a parable about being slaves in a far off nation(something for which there is absolutely no proof of, btw) if not to be believed? The plague story? The Passover?

obviously this did not happen, but it's pointless if not to be taken literally. what are we supposed to learn from this parable, that god is a vindictive child and decides to scrap the whole thing when people don't act like he wants?

The "better off"wasn't granted, it came from sacrifice.
As for the ones who stayed in Africa twere getting ready to face the ravages of colonialism. A fate they walked into when they started trading slaves with the Europeans.

We learn that God told Adam and Eve to not eat the fricking apple and that if they did, everyone would live in sin... Then hundreds of years later, because everyone is living in sin, he decides to float the Earth, kill everyone and start all over.. So that the Earth can be repopulated with more people living in sin.

god sounds suspiciously like trump ranting on twitter. for an omniscient being, he sure does have poor forecasting skills.

This implies that Africa (particularly Sub-Saharan) was on the cusp of some cultural revolution when white folks decided there was some exploiting to be done, and that just isn't so. Black rule has been a disaster for many (not all) of the former colonial states. Some have descended into anarchy. For all practical purposes, Africa continues to be ruled at the tribal level, the same as hundreds if not thousands of years ago, just with 21st Century technology.
Like slavery (and I'm not defending either) was to modern African Americans, colonialism was a net gain for the continent, particularly south of the Sahara.

A fate they walked into when they started trading slaves with the Europeans.
That is another odd thing about all of that - we're talking about what we must consider the fathers and grandfathers of modern European and North American civilization - not perfect, but certainly as good as we've seen it from a progress, liberty, quality of life improvement standpoint in all of human history - from roughly the mid 15th century onward is the Renaissance - Europe finally shaking off the hangover of losing Rome.
And THIS is precisely when white racism made it perfectly okay to enslave folks from 1 continent to fully exploit the resources of 2 others. Just bizarre, but in the grand scheme of things, people are still naturally barbarians. You see it in mobs today, even in first world countries. "Civilization" is apparently not a natural human condition.

The best way to think of it is an experiment in free will. I consider myself a mediocre "Christian" from an ideology standpoint, and I do. This is all just an experiment in free will.

I don't know if cultural revolution was occurring, but there was definitely some advanced civilizations in Sub Sahara Africa.
I'll leave it there for now

He is a business man and entertainer. That being said I believe that he will do what's good for his business and the business of his friends. I believe he is egotistical but what wealthy man isn't? I also believe he is very immature.
I am more worried about his die hard fanatic supporters. They believe every word that comes out his mouth. I appears some even worship him.
