But to the people that care you have to think
1. New Orleans is a predominately black city.
2. Those in opposition to removing the statues are not from New Orleans and do not live in New Orleans. It is ironic that the confederacy fought for state rights, but now that there is population of the people of New Orleans that want the statues removed there is also a group of people who don't support state(city) rights. I think what ever the people of New Orleans decide is the only thing that matters. I know people will use the history angle but can you name one place outside of the US where a enemy is celebrated?

There are still living victims of the Holocaust. To add to that a large group of folks have at least verbally committed to "finishing the job" Hitler started, and some of those folks run countries and have (or are seeking) nuclear weapons.
I'm not saying that slaves should have "gotten" over it. I'm not saying that at all.
I'm saying their great-great-grandchildren should get over it - in an era where there has been so much progress - why dwell on the (frankly) minor frayed edges? We live in an era of a black U.S. President, black CEOs, black billionaires, black Supreme Court justices - prominent blacks at every level of every industry.
Are things perfect between the races? Hell, no. And they're never going to be because that's just how people are. The perfect is the enemy of the good. Moving forward requires a sacrifice - that sacrifice is not looking back or at least not dwelling on what's behind you.
