The lack of a fair shake in the justice system.
Not having the right to vote
Housing Discrimination
Example
I had great uncles who fought in ww2, when their white counterparts returned home they were able to take advantage of all the programs available to veterans. The govt programs created after WW2 created the middle class we know today.
My uncles were almost completely excluded from those programs. "Left shite to come home to shite"as they would say . IN SPITE OFF, they worked, provided for their families and put kids through college.
That's just one example I'm sure there are more

Slavery + the 100 years of Jim Crow and discrimination is not something that can be overcome by an entire race of people in 1 or 2 generations. Things have been relatively equal for blacks for about 40 years.
Currently America is facing an overall upward mobility issue. Millennials are the 1st generation that are doing worse than their parents. I'm not sure why black progress is supposed to be immune to a Nation wide problem.
