The first thing to realize is that the vast majority of our imported crude oil (75%) comes from Canada and Mexico.
Yeah, I was already aware that the bulk of our oil imports are from Alberta. Sounds like we screwed ourselves by electing a guy that had promised to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline.

Ok cool. So the existing 3 phases of Keystone doest’t transport crude to the Gulf Coast? Trudeau probably has the damn thing full of maple syrup. Sneaky Canuck's.

When you are running over 500,000bbls a day. Not much makes small blip.
Placid in Port Allen gets the better crude.
The refinery was designed to run on Louisiana Light Sweet when Hunt Oil had a lot of production in the Gulf of Mexico.

Years ago, the older ships had boilers, ran on Bunker-C, they could also adjust the boilers to run crude. Every now and then, a ship would steal a little of the cargo (crude), get caught. One ship caught, as it was sailing from the dock, were changing the name. It was sold right after being caught.
BWAHAHA, only certain crude oil sources, like Sumatran which was a waxy heavy crude. A tanker's cargo tanks are gauged before and after loading as well as before and after discharge. So, any loss would be charged against the ship. But it makes for a good fable.
BTW, LNG carriers are designed to use cargo boil off as part of the fuel used on a voyage.
