Are you old enough to remember where you were when you heard The King died?

It was raining in New Iberia that day. I had just parked at Burger Chef. Was announced on the radio.

When did he die? I thought he was in jail... unless trump pardoned him.

I was getting ready for school living in Memphis suburb of Bartlett. Just a couple weeks before had stopped by the gates of his estate and Lisa Marie rode out to greet his fans on a golf cart. (when he was alive fans could not go beyond the gates which were always closed, there were usually a dozen or so fans hanging around all day every day)

ETA: Mom still has a copy or 2 of the Memphis Commercial-Appeal newspaper from that day and some of the other days after involving Dr. Nicky.

I was on the LSU Campus starting my Freshman year. I don't think classes had started yet. My roommate and I went straight to Murphy's and had a few in his honor.

At the local swimming pool. Heard it on the radio. This date August 16th has had some very famous people die. Babe Ruth, Aretha Franklin, Peter Fonda.....and of course Elvis.

Driving home from work in Starkville, MS. I had just turned left on Greensboro St from Louisville St, and I happened to be listing to Memphis AM radio (probably WHBQ) when the news broke. I parked right there and listened to the afternoon of wall-to-wall radio coverage. Think how WWL-AM sounded after Buddy D passed; this was for The King.

There was a skate park in Metairie called Zoom City, the announcement came over the radio station they played over the loudspeakers. I think they had WRNO on at the time...

I was 13...

In the back seat of my parents' car as the news came over the radio, they had just picked me up from the babysitter's house. I had no idea who "The King" was so I asked. That's one of my earliest memories.
