If you're marrying into the "step" kids, then we'll be on the same playing field. I may have the edge working for the man.

Any tips on getting flights there?

I do Dulles - Miami and then Miami gets me pretty much anywhere in the Caribbean I want. We plan trips way out ahead and can generally get round trip under $400 although we have paid more at times.

Yeah, I'm not sure what they paid. Hopefully a discount for +/- 40 flights. I know we are flying American and connecting in Miami.

in St. Thomas there are some really cool bars in the Red Hook area. Duffy's was our favorite there.
As everyone else has mentioned, island hop while you are there. St John, Tortola, and JVD are worth the trips and all better than St. Thomas.
Soggy Dollar Bar is a blast, we loved it there.
When you arrive on the pier in JVD, don't go hop on a cab. Talk to the ladies working in the building there and see if they will rent you a dinghy. If you can get one, take it out to Sandy Cay.
Sandy Cay is a small island just off the tip of JVD. It's completely uninhabited and protected as a wildlife reserve by the Rockefellers. You'll likely be there alone, or maybe share the island with 2 or 3 other people. There are trails going up into the interior of the island that's filled with wildlife. You'll see all kinds of random birds and crabs.
We bought some beer at the little store right at the pier and brought it with us. We sat alone on the beach drinking a couple of beers in our own private paradise.

Red Hook is fun but it also gets sketchy quickly.

Mountain Top has some great views but you do not want to be there when the buses from the cruise ships are there. It may also have the worlds largest collection of useless junk in a store in the history of man but the banana daquiris are legit.

Citation X or the new Citation Sovereign. Not sure what he took. I don't play golf. The good ole' boys are golfing in Puerto Rico right now. Meeting us in St. Thomas tomorrow.
