The government passed legislation in the early 2000’s called the CAN SPAM Act that gives you the power to pursue damages from companies that keep emailing you stuff after you’ve unsubscribed. They have a grace period of a few days to process your request but that’s it. If it’s a legit company, they should be adhering to the law.

When the Act first passed, some people made money by creating automated systems that would scour the internet signing up for mailing lists, unsubscribing, and then tracking any follow up emails. Then they would sue the company for damages.
