Mine is an unlocalized steady hissing around 4-8 KHz that is always present (think white noise with the treble turned up), though very rarely, I've had a minute or two of a pure tone around 2 KHz in one ear or the other. The hissing is basically a noise floor like a cassette that could benefit from Dolby, and it's infinitely better than the tone or any sort of variable noise would be. I can mostly forget about the hissing, and it doesn't really distress me anymore when I focus on it, like I am now. It sucks, but I know it could be a lot worse.

Oh, I am not aware of any audiologists specializing in tinnitus management in BR. Sorry. I have a few NOLA contacts if it's so debilitating that you need major help- just let me know. If you are a veteran, the NOLA VA had an EXCELLENT tinnitus program. I know the VA often gets a bad rap, but the audiology dept is great.
