you referring to the sportcross model?
No, I think they're talking about the Lexus SC coupe.

Was that the 3.7L engine?

3.5L on the 07-08 Type S...286 hp. I believe it was under rated and the manual trans, had a traction locking system (LSD), autos were a one wheel wonder. Regular TL's had a 3.2L
Mine never use a drop of oil...freaked me out.

I know the newer Lexus models are much more expensive to find parts for but older ones still shared some parts with normal Toyotas.

As a former Toyota Parts Manager, it's all Toyota parts on Lexus models. And the only time they're the same as Toyota models is when the two models happen to share the same chassis and powertrains. The IS models, however, didn't have a "sister" model from the Toyota line up so unless it just happened to share some of the same powertrain parts then nothing on that car will be the same as a Toyota. And Toyota parts are always more costly no matter what year the vehicle is.

Good luck.

Okay. The 3.7L is known for an excessive oil consumption problem. Like burns 2-3 quarts between oil changes.

I had an 02 and 04. Not a fast car, but quick enough to be fun to drive. Both of mine were 5 speed manuals. If kept stock, should be reliable. I believe they were also pretty safe. Like others have stated, make sure routine maintenance items are taken care of.

manuals seem to be commanding a premium..almost double what the automatic is going for.

I had an '03 ES300. The a/c compressor died at about 100K miles and was expensive to replace so watch out for that.
