well, if you have it in the middle of the living room, you can have the kids draw the water, after you tell them to get up and change the channel on the TV.

Wouldn't it be easier to turn that handle with the rope and bucket on it out somewhere than in the middle of your living room?

This isn't in Alabama it's in Louisiana.

Also, make sure you install a pig tail for your water well pump so you can run it off of a generator when the power's out. This is a huge deal for hurricane season. People who grew up on a public water system often don't think of this. When I was growing up, we didn't have a pig tail on our water pump (or a generator), so no power meant no running water as well. When you can be without power for days at a time, that's a huge problem waiting to happen. Make sure you have a generator and a pig tail so you can run the pump off of the electrical grid or the generator.

This this this.

I still remember the first hurricane I rode out away from home in college...I was amazed that the water still worked.

Have to treat the water cause it's hard as hell

My grandparents had well water... until they ran the city water out there. Tasted like absolute crap. Nasty. I guess it was hard? Never cared to know why... I just figured it tasted like... well water. I wouldn't drink it... I'd either bring a jug of our "city" water or, more likely, drink iced tea. Funny thing... my grandpop hated our water... he'd bring a big jug of well water to drink. Just what you get used to, I reckon.

They also had an actual well, with a rope and bucket, but didn't use it. Must have been before they got fancy with the pump well... I do remember them tell me to go out there and flip the lamp on in the winter at night... I was a kid and was scared of that pump house.... wasps lived in there.

When I was a kid in the mid 60s, My Grandparent's house burned, and they had to live in a house with just a hand crank well for a little while while their house was being rebuilt.

All of us kids thought drawing water was the most fun thing ever, of course, atari hadnt been invented yet then.

My parents have "hard" water, and I like the taste of it better than BR city water as long as its cold. When they're both lukewarm, it's a toss up. What may be making your family's water taste bad could be sulfur. Thankfully, we don't have any of that in our supplies.

I'd put it in an outdoor shed and make sure it's a bladder less tank so you can add air inside the tank where the water is in case you get the sulphur smell so the oxygen will displace it.

I have 3 and two have Goulds Deep Well Pumps and one has a Manual Pump. Each is 135 feet deep. The Pumps are One Horsepower and do not make much noise when running.

A couple of years ago, I was driving through Shreveport and stopped at a place to get some iced tea ( think it was a KFC).
They gave me a cup and I got it myself out of the kettle thing they have, I tasted it and it absolutely tasted like muddy river water.
I looked at the girl behind the counter and she shrugged and said, it's the water here. so I poured that out and fixed myself a coke.
I took a sip of that, and it was the same way, because of the ice. It was terrible.
I hope those folks have gotten that problem fixed.
