I am taking my 80 year old father in for cataract removal next week. Anyone with experience personally or that of a family member?

Had cataract surgery plus lens replacement last year.
Went through Williamson Eye Clinic. Surgery was easy. Recovery quick. I played volleyball two days later.
Had glasses all my life. I don't wear them anymore.

Any pitfalls to watch out for during recovery?

Had cataract surgery for both eyes in December, 2 weeks apart. It was very easy and painless. The worst part was putting in eye drops 4 times a day. I see perfect now! Best hing I have done!

How much of a difference did you notice after the first eye?

It is usually no big deal, as described above. My mom had the very unusual post-op complication. She had a bleed somewhere back on the retina, ended up with a massive floater and discomfort. Had to have a laser procedure to stop the bleed. The floater has reduced in size, but never went away completely. She has vowed not to have the other eye done, but it is becoming a problem so she probably will. This was the first complication I have really heard of -- my dad had both done with no issue whatsoever.

My dad had both done 5-6 months ago(a month in between each eye). He didn't have any issues.
Keeping up with all the eye drops can be confusing(you start off with 2 different types of drops). However place that did my dad's eyes gave him a special chart to keep track of his eye drop schedule.

Will someone be staying with him after the surgery, until his follow up? He definitely should not be alone.

I'm 52. Have always knew I needed glasses, was pre-scribed them at a young age, never wore them, got by. My vision got so bad that I was scaring myself while driving
Went to the doc thinking I would be getting glasses. Nope, cataracts. He seemed excited on discovery. Weird
Had the lense replacement on both eyes about 2 weeks apart. The first was no issue, other than the pia eye-drops. The second I actually felt to a degree, hurt like hell for a bit, they had to give me more aesthetics when I complained. Wasn't a good time
Always felt like my eyes are like my balls, you don't mess with them

My Dad had his done a couple of years ago at age 90. Doesn’t need glasses now for the first time since he was in his early teens. I still can’t get used to how he looks.

Good point, he needs someone to help him out if he needs it(especially considering his age). They will tell you he can't bend over for a certain amount of time after surgery as well. Also he won't be able to drive until his follow up. When my dad had both his done...his follow ups were the next day and he was ok'd to drive both times at these appointments.
