It's the little things. When he was a puppy, I would bother him while he ate. I didn't want him to become food aggressive. I did the same when he slept. Really just interacted with him a lot. I tried to treat him like a toddler would.

See, I never even thought about this. Any recommendations on reading material for training? Do have tactics for making yourself the alpha of the household, as is being mentioned?

Here's mine Sabi. Half American bulldog half mastiff. He's 16 weeks old and 36 lbs.

I'm sure someone would have better "training" tips than I. I just believe in being the alpha male, and that's really a mindset that anyone can achieve. It just takes confidence and understanding the needs of the particular breed.

Pinch collars are amazing. Walk the dog regularly and keep a short leash. Lots of people use click training, and I hear it works well. People need to know, though, that certain types of training will have its limitations.

No experience with the canes, but I literally grew up with 3-5 bullmastiffs at all times at my parents home. They showed and bred for about 20 yrs or so.
I'm telling you from a lot of hands on experience with dogs that size... Know what you are getting into before buying. Dogs that size with that kind of agility can be and will be hard to handle. There will come a time when one of two things will happen. shite is gonna hit the fan with another dog or a human... You better put the big boy pants on. They are no joke when they are that strong. I've broken up fights b/w dogs and had one of our males snap a choke collar trying to go after another dog that was antagonizing him while I walked him.
Find you a breeder that shows. Talk with them about the dogs temperament and what it needs bye wise etc... They know the breed. Then if you still think you want one ask the breeder if they have one they need to place. It would be a dog they aren't selling to show and they just want it to go to a good home... Get em cheap like that, well cheap as opposed to paying show dog prices.
