I've got a buddy who lives in Hoffman Triangle and surprisingly hasn't had any problems. Also know a dude who's lived in Hollygrove for less than a month and has already been robbed twice.

I'm not friends with Hipsters.

I would rather live in the Gaza Strip than Hollygrove

What was the thought process here?

I lived in both of those places before it was considered cool.

Where in Hoffman Triangle? What's the dude's story? Most of that area is really rough, but there are a couple pockets that would probably be okay.

He's a carpenter from up north. Bought a foreclosure for $10K and repaired it himself. Pretty sure he's planning to live there for a year and sell it so he'll pay a lower capital gains tax. The house is on one of the number streets.

I live in Inglewood. Does that count?

The block I live on now is probably worse looking than anywhere I ever lived, to the point that nearly everyone coming to visit us comments their first time. I lived in a pretty shitty spot in Philadelphia, but this still tops it in terms of appearance.
My last neighborhood was much nicer, but our house was broken into in broad daylight and valuables stolen. There are blatant drug dealers and deals on my current block all day long, leading me to purchase an alarm system for the house, but so far there have been no issues. Guy next door has been living here for over a year and has had no crime-related issues.
ETA: I'm not an intentional gentrifier and I don't wear my street on my sleeve or anything, it's just that I'm going back to school, meaning I'll be unemployed, and NOLA rent is absurdly expensive these days.

Nah. You can't really gentrify if you are black unless you are famous maybe. You have to look different than the people there already.

I went to Costco the other day with my gf and pointed out the street never to turn down

I have a lot of white customers in hollygrove, the seventh and the lower nine now. It's crazy.
Holly grove and central city each have blocks were every single house is being renovated. In ten years they may even be more desirable areas.

What street? There are some good cuts through holly grove. Van buren or Hamilton cuts from claibourne through Earhart to Palmetto.
