Had the same thing happen to me. A month later they called back and offered a new position.

I had the same exact phone call earlier this year, and I meant every word of it. Sounds like you are a good candidate.
My advice: follow up in a few months. Maybe even a year later. Be appreciative for the opportunity and let them know you really want it.
