Only about 7 hrs from LA.

If you go, definitely buy all your liquor in LA at duty free before leaving. A fifth of Absolut in Tahiti runs about $85. Just prepare yourself upfront not to worry about the expense because everything is freakin ridiculously expensive.

Bora Bora looks legit. This is a pic of where we stayed. The big island is technically the family island and has all of the water sports stuff. We stayed at the island in the top right which is reserved for couples. The island to its left is a private island. Oddly enough, the manager of the private island lived a block away from me in New Orleans (too bad I didn't meet her then ). The other island is the employee island.

You have to take a boat or plane from the airport to reach your island. We took a 45 minute boat ride.

In.

I caught a flight from LA to Papaete, French Polynesia (Tahiti) on Air France. I stayed in Papaete for a night. Then I took the ten minute hop to MOOREA and stayed there for a week. Then I hopped another plane and went to Bora Bora for a week. Moorea is nearly as good as Bora Bora. Booth are PRISTINE and old-world feeling. It is mostly Tahitians, French, Aussies, Kiwis, Japanese and then assorted Americans and Euro-trash. It is the best spot on Planet Earth. Go. I fear I shall die before I ever return. If I could go to one place, this would be it.

Titan, I assume you mean LAX. I agree everything is way overpriced. The big negative about the Maldives is that it is extremely Muslim so we could not bring liquor into the country.

Now you guys have me wanting to book a trip to Bora Bora. Might go after my wife finishes her fellowship. Depends if we have an extra set of feet on the ground or not.

Only way I'd go is if i didn't have to come back though.
I'm not dropping new Boat money on no week long vacation.

Yes. We learned after our trip that you can buy at the duty free on your way out of the country.

Yes, we went to Jade Mountain in St. Lucia for our honeymoon last January. That place was fantastic and not crowded at all. I believe there are only 26 units in the resort. It is still pretty pricey but I felt it was very much worth it. Jade Mountain
