I didn't realize until recently that some people take OTC allergy medications year round. Are there any harmful side effects to taking them every day of your life (i.e. liver, combined with alcohol, etc.)?

I take one before bed and one when I wake up, not at the same time. I am on flonase and eye drops too.
Yikes. Maybe switch the nighttime one to this
Chlorpheniramine is similar to benedryl with less hangover. If you can't take decongestants you can buy as a single ingredient.
If you are waking up with swollen eyes you might need nasal and ophthalmic azelastine. Also see previous post about daily nasal rinse and eye wipes.

I went to the doctor all the time as a kid and tried all kinds of stuff.
Did allergy shots for 6 months but it wasn't worth getting a mini flu once a month. My allergies aren't nearly as bad since I moved back to New Orleans since I grew up here. They were probably bad because I was in Baton Rouge yesterday and outside all day.
Eta: It is only really miserable for 1-2 weeks per year, so i just stick to what I know and tough it out.

I got those floating boogers in my eyes that drive me crazy. When I wake up my eyes are crusted shut.

Seems like you got this under control, apologies for advice. You didn't ask for any.

Not allergies, but this weather has all 4 people in my house with a bitch of a cold.
