I look forward to the thread on "quality" sunglasses bought for $5 at the gas station.
Probably a terrible example considering a lot of Luxottica branded items are of gas station quality at about 40x the mark up.

If you aren't getting counterfeit designer ties from overseas for under $10 each you're doing it wrong.

Only expensive things have good quality. What price point do I need to step up to to have good quality?
You often do get what you pay for. Or course, that adage applied to things like fashion and sunglasses can be far less true in those scenarios than in others.

Buy what you want buddy. I'll continue to buy my nice ties for under $10. They are disposable to me and I wear a tie every day so I have to swap often anyway.

Yep, lots of Luxottica branded items are way overpriced. What does that have to do with what I said?
Arguing against X does not equal arguing for Y.

Thank you, I will. Same to you. What you buy is of no concern to me.
I'm just cracking up at the inability to differentiate between "value" and "quality". If I paid $4 for a brand new car that normally sells for $6, then I got a good value. I did not buy a quality car. I bought a $4 car piece of shite...because quality cars don't cost $4.

Kind of hard to make an assumption on quality never having seen one of the ties I wear though isn't it? And I love polyester ties. They tie better and wear longer

You equate quality with cost. You're not going to admit it since I'm calling you out on it right now, but it's exactly what you're doing. You're not open to the idea that something can be made to a certain quality without costing "x" amount of money.
Then you use a ridiculous hypothetical about a $6 car to try to make your point.

One of the best watches I own is a $30 casio G-Shock. Cheaper than my $6000 Breitling Emergency.
Posted on 1/6/16 at 11:10 am to Broke
Your watch needed to cost at least $31 to be quality. Sorry, they just can't make quality watches that cheap. It's common sense.

Nope. I'm saying that it is not economically possible to sell a "quality" tie for $10 and make a profit. The time, materials, and overhead involved in making a tie that is even at the very bottom of "quality" prohibits it. It doesn't have to be $200 to NOT be $10. YOU guys are the ones saying I am asserting that because it's not $10, then it MUST be expensive.

Sure, anything can be made to a "certain" quality for ANY amount of money. Assuming zero is the absence of quality, then .00000000000000001 on a scale of 0 to 100 is a "certain quality" that can be met.
Sure, "quality" is subjective. I'm talking about a commonly held view of what constitutes "quality", not what a guy who wears $500 ties or a guy who wears $1 ties would call it.
The Tata Nano automobile that I posted in the suit thread sells for $2500 brand new. Every corner that could possibly be cut was cut. The cheapest materials were used, etc. At $2500, they still make a profit.
It has a "quality" greater than absolute zero, but nobody would call that a "quality" vehicle.

I'm just amazed that you have intimate knowledge with the costs of the clothing and accessory industry to where you can make this blanket statements and have them mean anything. So what company is yours?

And that is yet another comically exaggerated example you're using to try to make a point.
So tell me, where is the magic price point cutoff for quality? You seem to know exactly where it is, so put a number to it.

So do people not understand that the same sweatshops that we're buying $5 ties from and the exact same factories that are making the $200 ties at Barney's?
If a profit can be made at $5 USD or less, what's the justification for charging $150-$250 for pretty much the same thing?
I'm over labels, I just like nice looking clothing that is classically stylish. I don't need to pay $200 for a pair of jeans to feel good about myself. I once was a label whore and it helped attract shallow girls to wear brands they liked and thought were something special for whatever reason.
Thanks for the link to a new tie vendor Broke.

The $895 scarf my wife and I laughed at in the Louis Vuitton store in SoHo is obviously of a much higher quality than a $60 one from elsewhere. COMMON SENSE!

No. No they are not. The fact that you believe that demonstrates your ignorance.
***Before everyone gets all emotional and starts arguing about stuff I'm not saying... I am merely arguing the facts of the above quote, not whether the $200 ties are worth the money, or bashing anyone who doesn't wear them.

It is of a much higher quality. It might not be $835 better, but it's definitely better materials and likely handmade. Cashmere and Merino wool are not equal in quality.
