So how would you recommend treating my 70 year old father who tried to commit suicide over the summer? Tell him to "suck it up and get over it"?
The same guy who was diagnosed with severe depression and a severe anxiety disorder with paranoid delusional thinking at times?
Tell him to just stop worrying so much and think happy thoughts?

Nah I know how to get attention on here, as you well know
Mental illness and the related stigma is just an important cause to me

Ask him why is he unhappy. Maybe he thinks he'd be better off out of your way.
Reinforce how much you love and NEED him.

Cool. I'm here to post. I'm not the one claiming I have better shite to do right now while continuing to post.

So, that's that.
I agree, I think a lot of mental folks go undiagnosed.
I also believe that a LOT of folks get a "pass" because they are "depressed".

Yeah we said all that the day before he decided to randomly take whole bottles of his meds to try and end his life.

Ok, Poindexter. We all know that you want to stalk me.
Let it be, child.
If you reply, I'll take the high road, and not.....you certainly can't.

Maybe he's just old?
You csn definitely medicate him to live until 90 trapped in his own body though.

I don't know. A 70 yr old dude that's THAT miserable with his life is running from something.
Do y'all mistreat him? Is he afraid of you guys?
That's my thoughts.

Or he is suffering from a severe mental illness that finally surfaced after he suffered from the loss of his home in 2016.
I'm so glad you are not responsible for treating mentally ill patients. Several would be dead. Good thing you don't have any family that have mental illness as well. Your approach would likely kill them as well.

Yes it’s much more thoughtful to let someone only 5 years past retirement live so miserably that they want to kill themself

You and I share the same affliction, wasting too much of our time trying to have discussions with people that are to put it bluntly, stupid.
