No, but I saw a man and his infant daughter die from a lightning strike during a storm in Gulf Shores when I was 13. I was looking out from the deck, they were probably 100 yards away. Both were burnt to a crisp. Guy tried to grab his beach umbrella before it blew away.

In high school, I was standing under a tree at a rodeo talking to a girl and she looked at me and said "your hair is standing straight up." I told her get on the ground and we hit the dirt. Lightning hit the tree, no damage to us.

Do you also know when to leap just as a car/building explodes?

and if lightning hit the tree they were standing under, they would have been hit too .. That's why they always tell you not to stand under a tree in a lightning storm on a golf course ...

Oddly enough, it hasn't haunted me. I guess I try not to remember it, but it comes back from time to time.

My folks bought Ronnie's dad's place the year after.
He had been building it as his retirement home, that happened, and I think it was jus too overwhelming.

Coincidently, lightning struck it last week, knocked out the a/c, two boat lifts, and some other appliances. 7k in damage.

Yikes .. that's kind of freaky to have lightning hit that place too .. I can't imagine how tough it would be going on after losing your child, no matter how old they are .. Where were they from ?

New Orleans. Retired to the Northshore.

He lived on his sailboat for a while after that. Really nice family.

Saw two men fighting one time while camping out. One guy picks up boat paddle and Jacks guy in the head. Game over. Guy hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. We run tell my parents what we just witnessed about 15 mins later cops show up and haul the guy away in a body bag. I guess I was about 13 or 14 also. I got selective memories about that also.

I was standing on the front of a boat as we were trying to get to the bank and out of a thunderstorm. We were 8 or 10 feet from the bank when lightning hit a tree about 75 feet away. The concussion knocked me off the boat and I landed on the bank on all fours wondering WTF just happened here. I've had a healthy respect for lightning ever since.

Yet .. Chinhoyang's hair stood on end, while standing under a tree, but had the amazing presence of mind to hit the deck, along with his chick, while a bolt hits the tree and nothing happens to them ..

I have. Back in high school, I had just gotten out of my friends truck was walking to my truck and BAM! All I remember was waking up laying face down in the parking lot with a crazy headache and my ears were ringing. Freaked my buddy out pretty good. I went to the hospital to get checked out and have been fine ever since. Makes a pretty good ice breaker story during meetings .

My wife's dad's first wife was struck on the front of the boat while he was in the back on Toledo Bend. She did not survive. My wife freaks out when I play golf and she sees bad weather.
