Sorry to hear MB. Sending positive vibes your way. frick cancer scares me. Especially since both my parents passed from it. My mom at 43, my dad at 60. I'm 36 and I know it's coming.

I'm in the field.
Do 4-6 RALRP's (robotic prostatectomies) a week.

Most patients are off of pain meds in 3-4 days.

You will hate the catheter. Its imoortant though. I let them be removed in 11-12 days.

Incontinence is < 5%

Erectile function is more based on age and whether they can spare the nerve bundles.

Gleason score?

50's?
If you have good erectile function now, you should be okay if bundles spared.

Also. Have some faith. This is the most treatable cancer you can have. You made the right choice to have surgery.

Good luck brother.

One of my buddies had it done robotically, he had 5-6 of the punctures, they gave him minimal post op pain. Most of his discomfort was from "bloating" caused by the residual gas that was left over from his abdomen being inflated for the procedure. He had his done at Tulane, there is a Doc there that has done thousands of the Robotic surgeries. FWIW, all the physicians I have known with this issue have gone to the guy at Tulane, sorry don't have a name at this time.

One of my good friends is my urologist. My prostate was on the large side and he did mine open. Operation lasted about 1.5 hours and Have a 5 inch scar you can't even see. Pain wasn't a big deal. Easily managed by meds. Only took narcotics in Hospital. I was never incontinent. May a few drops when I laughed or coughed for a few weeks.
One year out and cancer free.

Keep us posted on the process, progress and the procedures you take.

How'd you find out? How did you know to get a biopsy? What were the signs?

Had enlarged prostate over a few years. PSA started going up. Went to urologist for biopsies. Surgery scheduled for end of March.

What were the signs that caused you to get checked?

Good luck.
