Late 90’s, a buddy and I used to spearfish the sunken rigs and boats off of Orange beach with a guy who would take us for free if we “crewed” for him during night dives.
One time, I remember doing a count as people got in the water and captain counted as they got back on. He started boat, put it in gear and I said, “Wait, where’s the weird dude with the old school regulator?” That guy was floating 50 yards away in the pitch dark, quiet as a church mouse. Shook up the captain pretty bad, he almost left that guy miles offshore. Btw the dude was using Sea Hunt, Lloyd Bridges style gear from the 60’s. There seemed to be a lot less bull sharks back then.
