Fun story, I work in pharma advertising and was on the agency team that launched the drug (when it was called Brintellix, later forced to change because it was getting confused with Brilinta)

Be honest,

Is it really better for avoiding the weight gain and sexual dysfunction?

It’s supposed to be better. You can compare the PIs which will have the rate of side effects and adverse events listed.

Trintellix is supposedly weight-neutral (think that's becoming more debatable with more studies, however). Also relatively milder, but considered a little "cleaner" than some of the other ADs. Also more expensive since it doesn't have a generic.

But does it cause you to pass gas in public? That’s the real question.

If you insist on keeping one loaded in the chamber, then it will not prevent it.

[quote] Come to find out I wasn't depressed, just anxious, so zoloft was a better option [quote]

Zoloft is actually an old depression medication that’s often still used off-label by doctors to treat anxiety. It’s one of the antidepressants that’s very notorious for messing up sexual function and causing weight gain. Hopefully it didn’t do any of that to you.

My psychologist becomes really angry when young people tell him that their doctors gave them Zoloft. He calls it the “dick killer”, and he says no young man should ever take it. It makes him angry that doctors hand it out like candy when it can be so damaging to a young man.

He said it’s because doctors sometimes focus too much on treating symptoms instead of taking a holistic approach to treating the whole person. It’s not worth giving a man medication to treat symptoms if that medication is going to create other problems for him that are even more undesirable than his original problem.

Trintellix is supposed to be a better option than Zoloft for both depression and anxiety because it’s a newer drug that often causes fewer weight gain and sexual dysfunction problems than Zoloft.
