Forecast is for heavy seaweed over the next 4-5 months. Gulf Stream helps push it more toward the Atlantic side. We will likely skip the Caribbean this year because if this.

Really?

a glob of seaweed twice the width of the United States heading for the gulf coast that will probably cause some issues but I don't know if Tampa was in its path.
This is an Atlantic coast issue, not really a gulf coast threat. Additionally the hype and scare right now is way overblown. This has been happening for years and this years “blob” is not even projected to be a record size.

That sucks to hear. Hopefully, it won’t be as bad and clears out by then. Feel bad for others who spent a lot of money not being able to get in the water.

Went in early August of 2021. Happened to catch it. The smell was bad, but they had someone that cleaned the beach every morning that helped. It also seemed like certain areas were worse than others. Didn’t really affect our breathing
We were on Maidera beach. The water was clear and clean enough for us to get in, but we walked a mile or two up the beach and there were blobs of seaweed with dead fish. Seemed like it was hit and miss. A shame because the beaches and water are beautiful and the places to stay are legit, you take 10 steps off the elevator and you are on the beach. There are beach side places in Orange Beach and the Florida Panhandle that require a decent walk to get on the beach.
I would just book your trip around when the rays are in town. Thats what we did. Hot the beach for 2-3 days and caught the Rays-Red Sox

I was down there in '71 for a month, I think it lasted the whole time, but
it's been a while. We we're there for the beach, fishing was still decent.
Pine Island to be exact.
Wow, time flies!

They start off of Africa. So you might want to check that continent’s water pollution before saying “we” fd up.

I‘ve been at Clearwater Beach all week with my family and haven’t noticed anything. Didn’t even know there was an issue until I saw this post. If there was anything foul going on at all, my wife would be sure to let me know about it. Haven’t heard a peep.

That’s great to hear you and your family are not dealing with it!
