As long as I keep burning a shite ton of it to make electricity. You will have a job.

Sounds like the job you're applying for is for a gas rep. Wouldn't neccesarily call you a pipeliner. You'll be the guy that answers one calls(when work is being done in an area, a report is sent out and you have 48 hours to basically go into the field, locate, and mark your line. You also have to be present during any excavations within so many feet of your line, especially in instances where your line is being crossed by a new line. As previously stayed, you'll also be responsible for routine maintence. You'll be provided a company truck and gas card. You won't be making the 80k a year a construction pipeline makes(if they work a full year ). But your job would be consistent. So if you like nature and don't mind walking possibly 100 miles with an instrument and flags, it's definitely a good job. You're probably looking at a 45-60k a year job.

And yes, the company mentioned is a very good company to work with. Met a few of their reps while working on the seaway project last year in Texas.

I'm not a pipeliner but I work with gas, diesel, jet fuel, oil, etc.

Pipeliner tend to only run the pipe. Fit it up and let the welder have at it and move down the line.

A fitter/fabricator in a refinery does a shite load. You actually need to know math. How to do rolling offsets. Templates/layouts, supports, etc.

Around $15-$23 an hour depending on the company

I was told pipeliners got more than refinery workers.... Those are terrible wages.

Nvm, I'm thinking of welders who have their own rig truck.

pipeliner's make their money in the tax free per diem. My company was 100/day per diem. 13.50 an hour on the actual wages. Straw boss made 17.50. Welders 21.50 plus 150/day per diem and another 50 if they used their truck on the ROW. Foreman's salaried at 3500/week plus extra 300 if they have to work 7 straight days. Foreman's on my last spread also got a 10k Christmas bonus.

From my experience you will have to move within the 30 mile range. Spectra Energy told me I had 9 months to relocate after the offer was accepted. I live 50 miles from their Egan storage facility and they would not bend on the 30 miles rule. I was not in positon to move and had to decline. I wish I could have accepted because it was a nice offer. Good luck.

I've watched pipelines make 80k or so sitting on their asses all day. I would do it if I wouldn't be bored out of my fricking mind and work with shmoes all day
