I actually left UNO to go to LSU. I was a communications major at UNO, until they screwed us over and turned it into film. I was miserable, but that was only because I didn't apply to the school to learn film, but you will actually go there for film. It's a boring school, but everyone in the film department has personality, so you will always have people to do things with. You'll never be bored because you'll always have some type of film project going on. UNO film people aren't like the people at LSU so be prepared; LSU people are kinda stuck up and UNO film people are hippish. I loved LSU and hated UNO, but ymmv.

Word of advice on the whole film study at UNO.
If you are truly set on a film career, drop out of school, move to NOLA, get a job bartending, take acting lessons and hire a agent. I have a in law that did exactly this.

I'd probably rent a place. Not too much of a dorm guy myself, and I have no idea if UNO even has dorms. The frats there all kinda suck. You'd have much more fun doing stuff not related to school

film school? someone wants soul crushing student loan debt and no way to pay it
Well, then just don't pay it. Keep setting back the date until it runs overdue and then reset it due to economic hardship and tell the Paki who calls the former student and parent to frick off and never call about the overdue loan again until they find an American who can speak fluent English.

UNO film grad here. You sound like how I was when I started college. I started in engineering at LSU, did terrible, blamed it on not liking LSU and my major, decided, "Yeah man I'm gonna be a film major and do what I love!" Really it was just that I was lazy and had no idea what I wanted to do. Other people have said it but I would honestly take time off and try and figure out what it is you actually want to do.
If you want to work in film, you don't need a degree from UNO to do it. You can be a production assistant right now. Start looking. Stuff is always filming in New Orleans. Don't go to UNO film school thinking its NYU and you will have incredible access and you'll make an amazing senior film that you'll shop to everyone. I think I had one 2 minute film completed throughout my entire degree there (and it was deleted because I didn't save it off their hard drive in time).
No one is going to look at a resume and say "Oh UNO FTCA grad? Write us a script!" It doesn't work like that. You need to be good and lucky. Screenwriting 1001 taught by a UNO professor isn't going to get you anywhere. Buy a book on screenwriting and you've already gained all the knowledge they'll give you and saved a semester's worth of tuition. If you want to make films, make films. Get a camera and go.

Nailed it. And you will make connections in USC, NYU, UCLA, or BRCC. Not there.
