Born in Opelousas. Lived on Lombard St. Grew up mostly in Baton Rouge. Brother still lives there to run the family business. Have a lot of other relatives that still live there.

Moms family is old school Opelousas.

Grandpa was known as "Cochise" the Marshal of St. Landry 1967-1980
Before that he was a deputy under Cat Doucet and owned a meat market on Union St.

Great Grandpa was the mayor of Opelousas in 1900.

Grandparents lived in the house on Creswell where Acadian Ambulance is.

I remember the TG&Y and K & B in the strip mall and the Phil-a-sak where Kelly's is.

We still own some property on the west side of town where my uncles farm was.

Someone send me Meche's Sausage please

You would like this book about the Bobby Dunbar case. FYI, my parents moved to Opelousas in the 50s. Back when the O was a good place to live and raise a family. My dad won citizen of the year one year.

Has the guy that owns all the buildings downtown started selling them or renting them yet?

It's pretty terrible driving through downtown and seeing zero commerce going on in a vast majority of the buildings.

I'm pretty sure the real reason he 'looked the other way' was because he had a financial stake in some of them.

Not to my knowledge. It is a shame.

Viviano? Nah...He's weird apparently..I don't know him but from what I hear he's stunting major renovations in the downtown area because of his lack of desire to sell anything.

Oh, and OHS class of 2000!

Yeah. And he's been stunting development for years. Seems like he's just an a-hole content to watch the town die on the vine.

I'm not saying Opelousas would have been some blissful utopia or anything, but he and a few others are big reasons why the town is in the shape its in.

he tried repairing buildings, but our historical district shut him down, so i think he figures if he cant fix em the way he wants then why try. he had started on 2 or 3 but they said the bricks he used were not historical looking! he has a few rented out, but they are in bad shape too!

They are idiots. They tried to stop my cousins from tearing down my aunts house because they put it on some historical preservation list without anyones permission.

ETA: The historical society put it on a list without my aunt or cousins permission.
