I remember everything in your dad’s tribute. That’s why we always built ramps etc to be like EK. They had those little pump up EK motorcycles u could race too. Stretch Armstrong was in time out a lot, because you could use him as a seriously weapon by holding those arms out and wacking your little brother or friend in the head. You could damn near knock someone out with SA.

Great yards to play football and baseball in. Woods nearby with dawsons creek to catch snakes and turtles. Fishing the walden lakes. It was a great childhood bc I grew up with 7 guys all withing 2 yrs of each other that were basically all within 4-5 houses of mine
Born in 78 next door in Mag Woods and had the same experiences in the 80's and early 90's. We also had the BMX track at Olympia. Thinking back now.... being 12 years old..running the streets with your mates during the endless summers... some of the best times of my life.

BR in the 70s was still pretty awesome.
Who did Sundays at Forest Park?
When the popo shut it down, the party migrated to Highland Rd Park.
Many great times.
How about the free concerts at the lsu Greek theater or the student union?
Great times to be had.

I remember when Wendall got his first Les Paul from his dad in 1977 maybe. He was one of the gang but he stayed in his place and practiced on that sucker all the time etc.
He was definitely way cooler and more mature than I was, and even then all the girls loved him. He was also a good friend and guy. We all looked after each other back then. He was typically the peace maker when Dwayne and I were mad at each other or something.
He was the guy trying to get me and Valarie together, (she actually had a crush on me), but I was an idiot.
We were like a little band of brothers trying to survive 7th and 8th grade at Valley Park Junior High.
Head on a swivel was the rule. The white kids there were as bad as the others. We were all scared to death after the stabbing, people getting beat up with bats etc I had a buddy get the shite beat out of him when he got caught alone in the bathroom, (they beat him senseless and put metal trashcan on him and beat it around him. ) Our solution, hold it.
I found roaches in the food first week so my lunch was a coke and candy bar, (I think a quarter at the little snack bar)
You never went anywhere by yourself, or else.
They turned the power off all the time and if you didn’t get out quick with your class you were toast.
They formed a gauntlet one time and beat the shite out of everybody as they tried to make it to the buses. I was very fortunately, absent that done.
They were going to get you sooner or later, u just hoped they didn’t kill u.
That’s why I had to leave Baton Rouge, my grandfather would not have it

Pollard here. We used to have a lot of fun roaming around the old LSU Research Farm where Pennington Biomedical is now. The Quail Drive Bridge was one of our hang-outs and we could ride our bikes all the way from the subdivision to LSU with no problem at all by cutting through Ford's Pasture.

No need for that. My friend's dad had a Hall-of-Fame level smut collection so we just went to his house to look at skin mags. His brother also had a huge record collection, but we weren't allowed to touch his stereo. However, he wasn't always home.

We'd sometime hang out on Friday nights in front of the 7-11 on Perkins at Quail waiting for an 18 year old (or someone who looked 18) to buy us a quart of beer. I think they were 89 cents back then.

Mr. Byrd was the assistant principal at Kenilworth when I was there and spent a LOT of time in his office for various-and-sundry infractions. KJH had something called "Behavior Clinic" (aka "Detention") where I spent quite a bit of time.

I played for the bengals football team, baby bengals, we practiced behind river oaks
I played for the Uniroyal Bucs. We practiced at Broadmoor High. The following year, my Dad lost his job and we moved to Brownfields and played for the Mean Machine. That was also the year when the Saturday morning games moved from Memorial Stadium to Westdale Junior High off Claycut. We practiced in the field behind St Isidore. Our coach rode a Triumph and attended (lack of a better word) practice wearing a naked lady t-shirt numerous times. The week before we played you guys, he called yall the frickn Downtown Baby Bengals. I think he had a beef with your coach or some shite. It was the first time I played organized sports with black kids. I was the starting tailback for first two games and lost my job when he made me and one of the black kids race about twenty yards. frick you Eldridge. You jumped the start. I still dont understand why are parents wouldn't let us have a sleep over though (I figured it out a few years later).
Moving from Broadmoor to Brownfields in 1976 was quite the culture shock. Some buddies and I would sit in the bed of an El Camino in the parking lot of the Cedarcrest Lounge on a random Wednesday for 45 minutes after football practice while our Dads slammed 4-5 beers. They would send out the cocktail waitress to bring us cherry cokes. A year later, I was at Brownfields Elementary. The school bus would stop at the Red Garter Lounge and the Rak-it-Bak Lounge on Plank Road to drop kids off after school where their Mom's worked. That summer, we would ride our motorbikes (YZ-80's and XR-75s) across Plank Road and pay 50 cents to get into the trailer park pool on Kleinpeter. Until this fat junior high kid named Koolaid broke the diving board. We would stop at Stone Drugs on Plank and read the Street and Smith football preview mags until the pharmacist ran us off.
Before we moved from Broadmoor, my Dad and his cronies would ride dirt bikes in the parking lot of Cortana Mall while it was under construction while we tooled around on minibikes. We went up to Chipola a few times as well. Good Times.

If I remember correctly, Mr. Stolcum (sp?) didn't take any crap.

Mr. Moss was the principal when I was there. Dude was a USN vet of World War 2 and a championship boxer at LSU and the Navy. You...did...not...frick...with...him! Do you remember Mr. Jumonville (aka Mr. J.) the head custodian? That guy was dropped of on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, and fought his way all across Europe and into the Bulge and beyond. He won pretty much every award for valor EXCEPT the Medal of Honor. He hardly ever said a word.

We probably knew each other if you were bused in, (white or black) there couldn’t have been more than 50 kids a glass. The black kids bused in got it just as bad or worse. I remember a black kid I was friends with, Anthony maybe, and he ditched with us when the power went off and we hauled arse to corporate mall and my mom brought us all home.
His dad was a doctor or something like that. He has shoes with a glow in the dark strips on them. We were in lab the power went out the door opened apparently and someone threw a bunch of stuff into the class room. We all dove under the desk and then as the teacher tried to get us out of there we all followed Anthony’s glowing shoes.
Chief was the principal and had a deal with my mom that we were to haul arse if any riots, brawls, crazy shite happened. He told her to tell us to stay safe and run like hell to the gas station by corporate mall and call my mom. We were excused. Main thing is that we stayed safe.
The teachers I had were all really good and decent people. I may have been in advanced glasses the whole time because it seemed like it was just the bus kids. I hardly remember ever even talking to many of the other kids. We were toxic to them.
I have no idea what the objective of this experiment was but our experience spread all over the city like wildfire and it probably pushed back the “merger” years or more. And I got my arse bused out of town too.

Everybody hated the Bengals, weren’t you guys sponsored by the police department or Brec itself. My little bothers team the falcons always beat the bengals in the championship game.
Of course he played TE at LSU too
