Oh ya i didn't get that at all - just a "you owe $300" type deal from a prior year - i think they add some interest but it isn't very much. I doubt they care too much about my extra $300 since i paid the bulk of it just miscalculated or something - don't really know why i owe extra actually.

LA DOR is the most incompetent morons on the planet. Sent me a notice dating back years for less than $200 on a corporation that I had closed. I argued with them over and over, and eventually, I had to go down there and write them a check. They had put a lien on me and I couldn't sell house, get any type license, etc.

After I paid it, the next year, started getting the same notice again. I had to send them copies of all my filings, along with receipt that it was paid. I called and called, and finally got someone to look at it and acknowledge that it was sent in error. Said it would be removed. Stayed on another year, I called again, no one would respond. To escape the constant notices and liens, I paid it again. It hasn't been back in 2 years, but I expect it any day.

I recommend you just pay it. Dealing with them is impossible.

I haven't been audited per se, but I received a "correction" and got hammered with penalty and interest on top of the tax. It basically doubled and if you don't pay it will skyrocket.

I refused to pay it for a long time and fight. Trust me, it's not worth the time. It went against everything inside me, but I got sick of the headaches and it showing up anytime a credit check was run. Just keep receipts.

They’re slow, 3 years slow.
In 2009 I got a notice that I owed taxes from 2006.
In 2010 I got a notice that I owed taxes from 2007.
Etc etc.

That's probably what mine was, i didn't look too closely. They are probably combing over everything trying to get some revenue generated. I think mine was from 2015 though.

If you wait until an amnesty day, you can pay it without interest or penalties. But I don't know if they do that every year or not.

I believe you only qualify for amnesty if you have not already been assessed.

I once got a correction saying I owed the LDR right at $5,000 in state taxes. Funny thing is it was my first year working and I only made $38,000. They are crooks and honestly some of the most stupid people you'll ever deal with.
