Not sure if posted, I didn't check the entire thread. I'd be hesitant, based on the following:

https://louisianarecord.com/stories/510583628-hurricane-cleanup-workers-claim-they-are-owed-544k

https://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/bodin-oil-recovery/abbeville-louisiana-70510/bodin-oil-recovery-triad-response-group-cox-petrol-scott-butaud-michael-cox-refused-to-958753

Leopards rarely change their spots. If the guy is a different Scott Butaud, your friend should make him prove it before putting any capital at risk.

Don't know the guy and not defending him but...

quote:

Lets make this clear, Cox and Cox Petrol did not legally owe us a commission, but they would not have bought and sold the fuel without our assistance, the equitable thing would have been to pay us the commission, but they were under no legal obligation to do so. We will let the courts decide on what should be done.

Yikes...this idiot didn't have a contract and wants to sue? lulz

He is suing Cox in addition to Scott Butaud, as is often the case in lawsuits. Note he did not say Butaud did not legally owe him. Ultimately, the courts will decide that, I suspect Cox is off the hook, though. The basis of the suit is likely the following quote though it is unclear if the promises from Scott Butaud and his companies Bodin Oil Recovery and Triad Resource Group were spelled out in writing anywhere or simply promised verbally.
quote:

failed to pay promised commissions to my associates and I for securing the sale of approximately 900,000 gallons of recovered fuel to Michael Cox and Cox Petrol.

As I understand it, a verbal commitment is usually legally binding though often impossible to prove to the satisfaction of the court in a civil action.
