Did any of you have awful foot and calf pain/numbness when you got out of bed? I’ve been in bed since last Thursday. I’ve read it’s not good to rest long but when I get up to stretch and walk the pain and tingling immediately shoots straight down to my foot and calf and I can’t walk. Ibuprofen and pain medicine doesn’t help. Stretching isn’t working. Heat pad / ice not working. it’s damn near impossible to get up for more than 5 minutes.
Any ideas on how to relieve the foot pain and tingling so I can at least move around some or is rest the best option?
Thanks

Yeah! It was so bad I had to drive with one hand on the seat to keep pressure off my back. When home, I would lay on the floor with my feet in a chair and watch TV. Fortunately I worked mostly behind a computer. I could only sleep on my left side.
Went to a Chiropractor, he told me to see Ortho. Went to Ortho, he told me to go to Neuro.
Neuro tried physical therapy, no help. He did an MRI and pin pointed L4-L5 bulging disc. He did surgery and I've had no problems since.
That was about thirty years ago.

Oh yes...had a disc scraped surgically 20 years ago. Since then as long as I'm not fat and keep working out I have zero issues.

I have had two discectomies - one for an L5 and then one for both the L5 and L4. L5 causes pain down the leg and L4 is more in the groin. Both were very successful and I am very active so no issues.
First step will be an X-ray but an MRI is quite possible. If you live in BR, best place to have in MRI is BR Ortho on their large bore MRI, BR General has the best large bore MRI in BR in terms of software and image quality. OLOL and Lake Imaging also have two really good large bore MRIs. When I say large bore, that means the opening is 70cm whereas the old magnets were 60cm. And, all these I have mentioned are "short bores? so around 145cm long which means that your head would be out of the MRI if it's a lower back MRI.

Learn to manage. Once it starts going out, it rarely ends. There are ways to stay healthy and live a happy life, and a ton of worse ailments.
Try to laugh when it goes out coughing, sneezing, farting, or tying your shoes.
Drink a ton of water, ice often, and try to stretch every day.

You Millennials are falling apart in this thread. Lay off the food trucks, 8 hour video game marathons and microbrews and take some walks in nature. It will do wonders for you.

Surgery fixed me 20 years ago....but it sucked when that ruptured disc pressed on that nerve!
