Work for a big company and sell to national or regional accounts. You won't be cold calling.

When I started 18 years ago, 2 out of 10 attempts at selling my companies product were cold call type situations. The remainder were established accounts that were handed to me. Granted, some were not productive at the time and needed attention but every one of them used and needed my product on a daily basis. They were just not currently buying much from my company for a variety of reasons. I don't really consider that true "cold calling." Just accounts in need of attention. They were already in need of my product. They were familiar with my company. They had a history of buying from my company to some degree or they had been receiving proposals/quotes at the very least. None of that is what I consider a cold call.

Point being, there are hundreds of sales jobs in the commercial construction sector that already have a built in and pre qualified customer basis the minute you walk in the door and fill out your paperwork.

Absolutely but in my industry which was o&g based for the most part. The last two years have been shite. I've called on companies I wouldn't even think about and have had success. Which leads me to another thing. I will still always look for new customers because that's the only sure fire way to keep growing my books and drive margin.

I'm actually surprised by the people in this thread saying they don't have to cold call. Unless you're running a delivery route, why wouldn't they cold call? Regardless of the product/industry you should always try to expand your client base or tap into new areas one would think. Sounds like some lazies on cruise control.

You might be interested in a position as a marketer.

They basically set up the relationships between the clients and firms and negotiate any issues that arise during the relationship. No commission but it pays pretty well.Over 100 k in my industry.
