That was the last bit of river bottom hardwoods left and use to be some of the best deer hunting in the area.

I caught a bobcat in a trap in there near a pretty decent sized pond back in the day. It made for a nice pelt but that was one challenging morning.

Yep. The northside of I12 always had standing water between 1077 and 21 exits. This was in the 80s. It all eventually drains into the canal/bayou between Flower's Estates North and South.

That's the catch, you have to get a wetlands delineation survey which is paid for by the developer. For the right number you can make the report say whatever you want it to.

The land full credit scheme is another BS racket.

Note that old neighborhoods rarely seem to be affected by these floods

Ya know, because 50+ years ago we were smart enough to build shite on high ground

Yep.

This is almost always true.

I say almost because sometimes the lure of access to resources is too great and you end up with Olde Towne Slidell.

Tchefuncte River gauge at 190 was 31.2 during the bad flood of 2016. Current projection is a 30.0 crest this weekend

It is currently pouring at my house (roughly a half mile away from the Tchefuncte). Thats not good from a timing standpount. If this rain doesn't get out of here, the upcoming crest is going to top 30 feet.

That height will probably also cause some flooding of homes along Old Landing and Riverbend Lane, as well as homes near La. 1077 and the Tantella Ranch Road area.

Good. Let them flood, and those who built here should be able to sue the developer and Parish. The latter was warned about developing this area, but they approved these ill-advised projects anyway.

I just got a text from my brother who told me that Turnpike Road was closed near Jim Willie Road. This is about the area where Bedico Creek and the Tchefuncte River come together during periods of high water. Our house is maybe 1/4 mile away from the river, but has never flooded; came close in 1983 and a mobile home we had on the property got washed off in to the woods in 2016, but water has never gotten in to the house. I guess my Paw Paw new what he was doing when he selected the site to build the house.

I guess Gottschalck Road is impassable.

As much as I hate to say it, I would suggest going in a high water vehicle.

I'm sure it has our property (and the west end of Jim Willie Road) underwater.

I remember that ad, and drank lots of the beer. Was it Milwaukee's Best or Old Milwaukee?

I honestly can't remember. I know that my family had a camp not far from where it was filmed and we heard that the Bass in the commercial was caught in the Tchefuncte and brought to the site.

The Mayor of Covington just sent out a notice stating that the areas of concern are along the "Little Tchefuncte" by the hospital (W 5th,6th, 7th, and Van Buren) as well as portions of Old Landing. It looks like it could be a long night for some of my neighbors.
