Explain to me how hard this is and how much money there is to be made in the game?

I ask because it seems this is the go to gig for Reality Stars once their tv stint dries up.

Pauly D
Brody Jenner
The Maddie chick from Charleston
Sandoval
The British guy from VPR
Kyle Cooke doing it now

The list goes on and on. Just traveling around having tour stops at various places across the country? Is DJing that easy to pick up?

Let's keep the facts straight - DJ Pauly D was a DJ before he was a reality star.

It takes a high level of music talent and skill to dj and it’s truly an art form opposed to say, playing an instrument, which anyone can do. I’d try to explain further but the nuance would be lost on the philistines here

My son dj's as a side gig. Makes pretty good money for it. Of course it was easy for him to get started since he used my gear

It's complicated. Just like having a band. All kinds of music and all kinds of different levels.

I mainly DJ-ed for a living for a long time. I DJ-ed rock (punk-glam) but also had a record label which was the reason I could promote myself and get a manager to set up tours.

This was pretty niche so it wasn't big money like the dance - house etc big names but popular enough to tour Europe/Japan and make a profit.

I had regular bi-weekly DJ night in NYC from 2005-2015. Since I was bringing 200+ people it was possible to negotiate $1500 for the night.

My best friend has done it for a living (60s Soul/R&B) for 25 years. Like with a touring band, he's travelllng around the world and doing 4-5 nights a week for months at a time. He makes good money doing it.

I'd really compare it to having a band though in terms of how "easy" it is to get the type following you need to actually make money.

Here in NYC it's a pretty good side hustle for people that just have good taste and record collections since you can get $200-300 or so for a gig without needing to do any promotion and just needing to bring needles, headphones and records.

The venerable poster with great hair and an elite college education known as OWLFAN86 was a DJ at one point, so I heard...
