There's a lot of fair criticisms of Bourdain, but glamorous and unauthentic are not two

He was himself through and through and hated glamour. Do you mean he's the less famous version?

I love Rinella.

But I don't know how Bourdain wasn't authentic. I think he played his smugness up for the camera a bit, but I don't know any media personality that doesn't play to their character that they build.

Bourdain is highly glamorized. It just means his status was highly elevated and worshipped.

Guy Fieri is my favorite TV personality in this genre. The dude is like legit a cool, happy dude and can cook his arse off while hosting some fun/interesting shows.

Yeah he gets made fun of a lot, mostly for his style, but the guy is so energetic and positive, you can’t help but like him. Seems like a great father too.

I really enjoy his shows. And to think, he’s only there because he won their reality show. By far the most successful off that show. He’s like the Carrie Underwood of next food network star.

I guess by other people.

He himself hated that shite though.

He didn’t seem like the type to enjoy that.

Could possibly be a factor in his depression/addiction.

You don't get to touch. You'd have to either be frustrated or gay if you're a dude doing that job.

I just found out this guy had an 11 year old daughter. How the hell could a father do something as selfish as this to his little girl? Pathetic.

Kurt Cobain was similar near the end of his life. Neal Peart actually loathes fans that worship them.

I can totally understand that. I don't get the cult of pop culture.

Took long enough for this retarded take to make its way to this thread. Mentally ill people do not make rational decisions. How anyone can't grasp that is amazing.

He was jerking off and trying to strangle himself when something went wrong.

You people are delusional trying to defend the guy.

frick off you stupid sorry piece of dogshit. Sorry if I’m not “senitive” enough for you. But I’m not going to sugar coat what he did. He was a father. He was reponsible for a child. But instead of taking care of his child he took the coward’s way out. That’s inexcusable.

My dad has 4 adult children, 2 of which are mentally challenged and live with him and depend on him. He also has his first grandchild on the way (or was...she arrived last weekend).

Yet he still felt so hopeless that he tried to end his life.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The fact that you have no idea, you should be thankful for. Because that means you haven’t had this horror happen close to you or to one of your loved ones.

Cobain was who popped into my head. He hated being famous.

Has Bourdain ever been seen exercising? Not sure of your argument here.

Be grateful you don’t know the anguish that leads people to suicide. Be grateful the experiences you’ve shared on this board didn’t lead you on a path to suicide.

Severe depression is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Your mind doesn’t work rationally. This man had several issues with addiction as well. So many demons to fight on a daily basis. It’s not just as cut and dry as “get over it, you have a kid to raise.” The kid is likely better off with a parent who can be there emotionally.

What makes you think he was suffering from depression?
