When someone says this it usually means they are concerned.
It's basically saying "that didn't hurt" when in front of friends, when in fact you could cry from the pain if they all weren't around.

When you’re talking 100s of millions, 1% is a big big number so I can see THAT being right. They are definitely feeling this.
