Biggest scam there is

Was called "running numbers" when the other mob did it

Still can't believe they can openly lie and call the sum of the payments the payout, would be like saying your home price = the sum of your mortgage payments

I agree, the winning amount should be expressed as the lump sum amount.

The fact that government-run lotteries are doing this to constituents is scandalous.

I'm guessing the lump sum amount (if that's what he opted for) was about half of that...around $250,000.

I would think that since the check was written out for $400,000+ then THAT was the lump sum payment
The lottery probably advertised a winning of $800,000+.

Some states require you to identify. Sucks to win in one of them.

There are ways to collect to stay anonymous but only smart people do it (using Trusts and/or attorney to collect) The dumbasses who usually win are the ones we all see smiling with the big checks.

It's silly to put yourself on display. Not sure why people think this is a good idea.

Burch is not the first lottery winner to find misfortune after winning a big score of cash.

Chicago resident Urooj Khan died mysteriously of cyanide poisoning in June 2012, a month after winning $1 million. His widow and daughter split the estate — a lump sum of $424,000.

Jack Whitaker, who won $315 million Powerball in December 2002, had about $745,000 in cash stolen in the years following the jackpot.

In 1998, a disgruntled relative allegedly hired a hitman to kill his brother, William Post III, after he won $16.2 million.

Jeffrey Dampier was shot to death by his sister-in-law in 2005, nine years after he won a $20 million lottery.
