Am I wrong to think all the large charitable functions are scams?

For example, my big city is organizing a ‘telethon’ to raise funds to go towards philanthropic efforts aiding community relief efforts associated by this pandemic. All of the media outlets are on board.
My intuition tells me most funds will end up in the wrong hands. Are we too brainwashed by corruption to no longer have a heart to help those actually in need?
How do we tell the difference?

Most charities revenue goes to administrative cost. So yes, most are grifters trying to look legit.

Not all are scams, but whenever you have a lot of money involved in anything, the temptation is too great for many people not to stick their hands in the jar.

I don't think so, but I try to give what help I can directly to the people instead of allowing someone to do as they want to with it

I’d still rather donate directly to St Judes.
